Name: Maria Stylianaki
Lives in: I have lived in Athens in the same neighborhood (Gyzi) for almost 35 years. I love that it’s near the center, and I can see Lycabettus, Akropolis and Peireus from my little terrace.
From: I was born in Germany but raised in a small village in West Peloponesse. I have the most beautiful memories from that period of my life. When I was little I wanted to move to Athens, but now I value those years in the countryside more than anything-a real treasure in my heart!
Occupation: I’ve been a yoga teacher for the last 20 years. After studying many different systems of yoga, I now teach hatha yoga. I’m also passionate about mythology and philosophy. I believe yoga is the art of knowing oneself, and I’m honored to teach yoga classes weakly at B&E Goulandis museum surrounded by masterpieces!
Tell us your first three jobs (ever!): While i was studying at the University I taught French, then my next two jobs were working at small gifts shop in my neighbourhood. 🙂

What do you love about Athens?: I love the center and how it is full of energy and life! I love that Athens is close to the sea and near the mountains as well. My favorite spot is on top of Lycabettus hill where you can have a 360-degree view of the city and take in the most beautiful sunsets.
Tell us something most people don’t know about you: I love singing! I have no idea why my family and friends give me “the look” when I do!
Where we are most likely to find you in Lynn’s Kundalini Yoga : As a yoga teacher I have little time to attend other fellow teachers’ classes, but I’m very happy when I manage to! I’ve taken her classes when she was teaching at Bhavana Yoga.
First time you tried Kundalini Yoga?: I tried Kundalini yoga with my friend Alexandros Surya Deva many years ago, and I’ve also attended Lynn’s class when we were both teaching at Bhavana Yoga center a few years ago.
